Original Hedgerow, leg 1.

Warm between occasional showers.

Snowberry is closely related to Honeysuckle, and they share some leaf-miners. This is Aulagromyza hendeliana, an Agromyzid Fly. The relationships between insects and their hosts can be a good indication of relationships between the hosts.

As I watched the water-walking beetle (right of centre) I noticed its shadow (left of centre) on the bottom of the ditch.

A large Weevil under Creeping Buttercup.

Rhingia campestris has a much longer tongue than most hoverflies. This enables it to reach nectar in a much wider range of flowers.

A minute (3mm) bug on Nettle.

The fungal rust Melampsora hypericorum on Tutsan. Tutsan - along with other Hypericums - has antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Perhaps that's why there is only a single rust that attacks them.

Watercress is very prolific in this ditch that contains run-off from a cattle pen.

Tetanocera sp. - one of the Snail-killing Flies.
