Original Hedgerow, leg 2.

Cloudy with prolonged showers.

Many Sawflies appear to be grey or bluish. Subtle differences in size, head shape and thorax/abdomen ratios tell me that I have quite a few different species. I need to get my hands on the (out of print) key to these.

A micromoth spinning on top of the bud of Knapweed.

A new sawfly on Willow. This is the same specimen of Willow that Nematus pavidus was photographed on last year, but this is a completely different larva. I'll be monitoring this batch.

I note that a few of the larvae (one shown to the right above) have large heads.

A difficult picture of the pupa of the Thistle Tortoise Beetle. The out-of-focus portion to the head end has changed to a shield-type shape. Compare with the larva from July 29th.
