6th August |
Road through coniferous plantations, and inside one of the plantations
after the rain set in.
Cloudy with prolonged showers. |
Fungi are ahead of schedule this year. The endless rain has doubtlessly helped. Lactarius piperatus. The specific name comes from the acrid and hot milk: my tongue was still burning about 2 hours later.
|
Another Cheilosia illustrata hoverfly, which I'm seeing in singles in a few more places this year. |
The only shot I could get of a Chrysotoxum hoverfly. The eyes are not hairy, which knocks out the most likely species: Chrysotoxum arcuatum. Research ongoing. |
Another Ectemnius sp. Wasp. These are hoverfly killers. |
A scarce shot (during rain) of a second generation Green-veined White. Note that the Angelica is turning to seed. |
Tricholomopsis rutilans - "Rhubarb/Plums and custard" is very numerous this year. I'm seeing it in every coniferous area. |
An update on the Sawfly larvae from the Hedgerow, leg 2. These are growing very quickly and are changing instar (colour markings) almost every 2 days. I suspect this species is on an accelerated development pattern, and will go to pupa very quickly.
