23rd August |
High Heath.
Cloudy but dry. |
A very few of my Devilsbit Scabious plants have flowers with reversed colours. Each specimen plant has all flowers the same. |
Larvae on flowers are usually Pug Moths, especially if they are 'loopers'. This is the larva of the Ling Pug. I suppose the body shape helps it to stand on one floret with its head buried inside another. Ling Pug - Eupithecia absinthiata f. goossensiata - is thought to be a form of the Wormwood Pug - Eupithecia absinthiata.

A bit of a puzzle. This little (12mm. cap) mushroom was growing in moss. I took a specimen to get some spores and they turned out to be black. That limits us to only a few families, but none of those have pronounced rings like this one has.
