High Heath.

Dull with heavy rain.

This is an Ichneumonid with prominent white bands on the antennae. I'm increasingly interested in the convergent colour patterns of Ichneumonids and Sawflies. I suppose it isn't too far a gap between saws and ovipositors.

The first Harvestman that I have identified to species: Mitopus morio.

The earliest bumblebee is also one of the latest. Bombus pascuorum.

An early-instar nymph of Troilus luridus - a Shield Bug, with an inset showing the brilliant colouring on the abdomen.

I showed a later instar of this species on September 14th, 2005. The development ties in exactly (about a month to develop through the various nymph stages) and interestingly, the location is within 10m. of where the first specimen was found.

A close-up of the hoverfly Eristalis pertinax.

Bibio varipes is a little unusual: the female (shown) has red legs and the male is all black.
