29th August |
Original Hedgerow, leg 2.
Dull with showers. |
This fairly distinctive little (6mm.) Ichneumonid was ovipositing on various different batches of sawfly larvae. Notice again the unexpected hinging point of the abdomen.
|
Some of the sawfly larvae try to hide by moving under the leaf. The Ichneumonid is wise to this trick, too. |
More shots of the operations on the underside of the leaf.
|
A side-shot of the approach.
|
Just in case it appears that the Ichneumonid was alone, here's a shot to show another doing exactly the same thing.
|
The adult sawflies clearly lay in sequence. This leaf is on a branch that has eggs, newly-hatched larvae, 2nd instar and 3rd instar larvae. |
A different little Ichneumonid that was approaching the larvae. |
A long-range shot of a Speckled Wood butterfly resting on a conifer for a change. |
