Original Hedgerow, leg 2.

Dull with showers.

This fairly distinctive little (6mm.) Ichneumonid was ovipositing on various different batches of sawfly larvae. Notice again the unexpected hinging point of the abdomen.

Some of the sawfly larvae try to hide by moving under the leaf. The Ichneumonid is wise to this trick, too.

More shots of the operations on the underside of the leaf.

A side-shot of the approach.

Just in case it appears that the Ichneumonid was alone, here's a shot to show another doing exactly the same thing.

The adult sawflies clearly lay in sequence. This leaf is on a branch that has eggs, newly-hatched larvae, 2nd instar and 3rd instar larvae.

A different little Ichneumonid that was approaching the larvae.

A long-range shot of a Speckled Wood butterfly resting on a conifer for a change.
