Cloudy, dull and wet. |
A segment of a wasp's nest lies exposed on the back wall of the ditch. Badgers are well known for digging these up. The nest is clearly that of the Common Wasp - Vespula vulgaris, since the comb is beige in colour. V. vulgaris uses rotten wood to construct the nest envelope (hence beige nests), whereas V. germanica uses sound dead wood (grey nests).
