The larva spins the leaves of Willow into a tube which it uses for protection whilst feeding from April to June. Larva length 15mm in this image:

The adult flies from August to mid-November, and the male is frequently attracted to light.

Adult length: 18-20mm.

    

Overwinters as an egg.
