2nd January |
| High deforested area. The light was fading fast. |

Just the other day I read about a lichen whose fruiting bodies look like drops of tar. Can I find the reference? Nope. Lecidea lithophila. Specimen about 2cm. across. |
|
Another lichen - Usnea fragilescens - growing on heather, which is its normal habitat.

Almost...almost...spring is upon us. These Willow buds are pushing the boundaries of reason. |
|
And here's a philosophical question. This little shoot of leaves has appeared on an apparently dead stem of Slender St. John's Wort - Hypericum pulchrum. Given the fact that this is a perennial, is this shoot 8 months late or 4 months early?
