Donegal Wildlife Database - Fungi - Basidiomycetes - Pseudohydnum

Pseudohydnum gelatinosum superficially resembles the hedgehog fungi, but is a transparent, gelatinous fungus. The spores develop on tooth-like structures on the undersurface, leading to its common name - Jelly Tooth. Growing on coniferous stumps, the fungus grows up to 5 cm. across the cap.

The first sign of the fungus is a blue-grey warty structure:-

Then the brownish cap begins to form.

The fully developed fungus has a brown cap with a blue-grey edge and pale teeth.
