A surprise on my window-sill, this morning.

Dry and bright.

Four shots of a female Emperor Moth - Pavonia pavonia. The 'eye-spots' are intended to deceive predators, by misleading them, or perhaps even scaring them.

The Emperor Moth is normally found in heath areas, where the spectacular caterpillar feeds on Heathers.
