The Department of social Community and family affairs is responsible for the formulation and implementation of the Social Protection System. Which includes the provision of Social Welfare Payments and other supports which enable people to participate in society.

They cover a range of income supports such as the provision for unemployment, illness, maternity, widowhood, retirement and old age.

Other provisions include employment support for job seekers and people at work on low income pay.
