HENRY BLACKMORE

Henry Blackmore is a full time and professional artist who lives in Goatstown in South County Dublin, Ireland. Over many years, Henry has developed a unique style of painting, having taken a two year sabbatical to study technique and visualisation. This original style has earned Henry world-wide acclaim and his works now feature in many prestigious collections around the globe.

Among their many attributes, Henry's paintings are notable for their unique use of multi-image expressions, the second and subsequent images not being immediately apparent at first look. The images are often suggestive rather than definitive and other images emerge from the painted ground so that the paintings are always alive.

There is a strong influence of Rembrandt as evidenced by Henry's use of surface richness. Turner is another strong influence in terms of luminosity and harmony based on a single dominant colour.

Henry Blackmore paintings are lyrical and poetic, often with a touch or a sense of magic in their atmosphere. Subject matter varies dramatically. There are close-ups and natural forms - especially flowers and their ability to suggest a fleeting moment of beauty or a moment in time. Then there are shadow-filled interiors with light through stained glass. The meanings and expressions seem straightforward at first until the secondary elements introduce a new idea.

Often, Henry's concern with the transformation process of human experiences such as from childhood to adolescence is gently perceptible behind the strong visual quality of the artist's work.

Henry has had several one man shows in Ireland, Germany and the USA. Henry's works have also been exhibited with all of the major national shows in Ireland.
