Millicent house, a fine
Georgian mansion, was originally owned by the Keating family. The estate was
purchased by Richard Griffith in 1782. He made his fortune while working for
the East India Company in Bengal. He was a member of the Irish Parliament from
1783 to 1790, and a director of the newly-formed Grand Canal Company. Richard
Griffith was high sheriff of Kildare in 1788, and a captain of the Clane
Yeomantry at the start of the insurrection in Clane and Prosperous on the night
of 23rd May 1798.
