The best known symbol of early
Christianity in Ireland is the
Moone High Cross. The development
of high crosses bearing scriptural
scenes had probably began in Ireland
by the second half of the 8th century.
One of the earliest, and certainly one
of the most unusual of these high crosses
is the cross of Moone.
