The Aylmer Monument

In St Peter's church, Donadea, there is a splendid ornate canopied tomb of Sir Gerard Aylmer who died in 1634. Undoubtedly the finest monument of its type in Co Kildare. The monument has two niches containing the kneeling effigies of Sir Gerald and his second wife Dame Julia Nugent with their son and daughter. The Aylmer an Nugents coats of arms are displayed and there are also interesting inscriptions on the frieze.
