Transition Year Calendar - 2003 to 2004

At the end of the Junior Cycle students have an opportunity to participate in the Transition Year Programme.  The aim of the programme is threefold.  It is designed and structured as a foundation for:-

It has a broad core of academic subjects and has a valuable programme of short courses and modular courses.  Academic subjects include all those offered at Senior Cycle.

There is a strong emphasis on varied types of learning which will develop useful and focused skills and techniques for Leaving Certificate studies.  There is a special focus on languages.  As well as continuing studies in French and German, students are offered an opportunity to study Italian  or Spanish, Japanese and Russian.  All students are offered Computer Studies, Career Education, Religious Education and Physical Education.

  • Philosophy
  • Technology

Careers' education and the comprehensive Work Experience Programme offer students an opportunity to explore career options.

Social work as well as Sports and Leisure Education are significant features of the year.  Students are involved in a joint social work programme with the Central Remedial Clinic.  A range of Physical Education and Sports Activities are provided for, both in and out of school.  Opportunities to participate in Venture Sports Outings and Programmes are offered.

Special cultural visits and educational tours are provided.

Debating, Public Speaking and Drama offer opportunities for personal development and each year Transition Year students present a Musical or Stage Production.
