EGLONE

The Eglone is an erratic Magnesium linestone boulder which is unusual to the district, it measures seventeen feet in height, twelve feet wide on one face and seven feet wide on the other. There are about six other boulders of the same description although these are not as large as the Eglone. They stand in a line running East-West and are situated parallel to the South margin of the Moytura Plateau. It is likely that these boulders are so placed as a result of glaciation or by the process of floods which may

have unearthed them.

In folklore, Daghda Mor, yet another character had super-human strength and the Eglone is said to have been placed there by Daghda Mor who, on waiting for the arrival of his followers before this famous battle, passed the time by throwing, what were to him, pebbles in a straight line.

THE LABBY

This dolmen in Moytura is better known to local people as "Labby Rock" or the bed of "Diarmuid and Grainne".

The Labby Rock is a portal tomb which was built between 4000 and 2000 BC during the stone Age and it contains a

burial chamber which is over laid by a massive 70 ton Roll Stone. The dolmen was never excavated and it is not known if a cairn existed originally. Folklore has it that King of the De Danann Nuadha is buried here.
