I dont know why Begley is getting such a hard time over his decision. His background is football, his father was the clare manager and he was a senior championship footballer for two years before he made his hurling debut. The only people who say he is a useless footballer, are people from Ballylanders who think Johnny Murphy should be on instead of him and people from Athea who think Pat Ahern should be on instead of him. Begley got 6 goals in the league last year, Johnny Murphy got his chance when Begley got injured and didnt produce, but is a very effective impact sub. Ahern is best at wing forward, but Lavin and Kelly are faster, fitter and better at tracking back. In the Munster final, had Begley been there, any high ball sent in around the square would not have been won so easily by Moynihan. Now that he is concentrating on football alone, Begley will prove his critics wrong. IP: Logged |
