Snow in Winter
by
Philip Rooney

 Once on a winter evening,
The snow was falling really heavily,
It was covering the streets
And all over the place.
It was icy and freezing cold,
Everyone was having fun,
Playing snowball fights.
But it was so cold
That their fingers were numb.
Everywhere was white,
Everyone was frozen.
Our faces were red in cold.
It stayed for a week
And we were freezing for the whole week.
It was fun in one way
Because I and all my friends
Had good fun
Having snowball fights.

 Playtime in the Park
by
Denise Tierney

In the park I see
So many faces.
I see so many places
To go.

Sometimes it's quiet
Sometimes it's noisy
And sometimes it's
Terribly frightening.

I have so many friends
At the park,
So many things to do.
There's always fun
At the end of the day.

When it's time to go
I say goodbye.
I go home to bed
And sleep all night long.
For when the morning comes,
I'll see my friends again.

Another day for me to play.

 The Best Day in Winter
by
Christopher Jebb
I love when winter comes around
The snowfall covers all the ground.

We can't go to school
Because the snow is too deep
So I go back to my bed
And fall asleep.

The doorbell rings
My friends are calling.
I look out the window
And see them snowballing.

The robins are happy
In the trees.
The day is cold
With very little breeze.

We built a snowman
He is tall and fat.
He has an old scarf
And my Mam's best hat.

The hills are steep,
We're all on our sleighs.
We are going to stay here
And play for days.

By bedtime
I'm too tired to eat,
So I jump into bed
And fall asleep.

By morning the snow's
Washed away by the rain.
Instead of fun
It's school again.

 Home
by
Jamie Sue Kelly
When I look out the window at night,
I see a very beautiful sight.
The sight of little gleaming lights
Fill up the skies above.

When I look out the window at night,
I see a very beautiful sight.
The sight of little gleaming lights
Make up the city of Dublin.

When I look at my hometown,
I know it'll soon be gone.
Not gone in the way disappeared,
It will be changed and I'll be gone,
But the lights
Will still
Be there.

On a Cold and Frosty Morning
by
John Nolan
As I put my nose over the covers,
I knew it would be cold,
As I slept through the night,
The cold and frost took hold.

There was ice on the window,
It was cold on the floor,
There was even ice
Around the door.

As I walked to school,
The puddles were ice.
It was bright and sunny,
The morning was nice.

In the schoolyard that day
The girls were skipping
And from the trees
The water was dripping.

I like a morning,
Cold and frosty.
It's better than the wind and rain,
Because that weather is a pain.

Weekday Prison
by
Simon King
Sunday is the night I fear,
For tomorrow I must hear
A ringing sound in my cell,
My torture, like a weekday hell

.A guard walks in unfortunately
He has a bag of books for me.
I take one out, begin to read,
For he ignores my morning plead.

Out the window, at cars I stare,
I beg and beg for a breath of fresh air.
It's one o'clock, I'm going insane,
I need a break from the prison game.

At three o'clock, I'm let off home
To where my family leaves me alone.
I'm not happy, I'm not cool,
For tomorrow's Tuesday and I'm in prison
Better known as school

School
by
Paul Nolan
I walked into school one day
And wondered what the teacher would say.
Would he talk about Math?
Or give out to me for wearing a hat?
I don't know much about History,
To me it's all a mystery.
In Geography, I don't know the difference
Between Africa and Asia;
To tell the truth, I can't even locate Malaysia.

Luck
by
Jamie-Sue Kelly
Lady Luck swirls round and round
And stares at the houses below.
Suddenly she sees a man walking ever so slow.
He's limp and lean and his eyes are dim,
No wonder she felt sorry for him.
She sang her song of luck, she did,
To the ground where he stood.
The man reached down to a lottery ticket,
"This could be lucky, this could".

So, if your days are sad and long,
Listen for Luck's song
And if you do, look around.
Remember what the old man found!

School
by
David Reardon
At nine o'clock the schoolbell rings.
We walk quickly to the classroom.
At eleven o'clock the lunch bell rings.
We quickly walk to the yard.
I watch the good girls skipping
And the bad boys ranting and raving.
At three o'clock I watch the children run home with joy.
Have you guessed yet? I'm the teacher.

The Dictionary
by
Lynn Kelly
Dictionaries come in all different sizes,
From small and fat

To tall and flat.
Everyone thinks the dictionary is so great,
But some words it doesn't even show,
Like thingamajig and yolkimebob
Or other slang words we use

Maybe dictionaries have a secret inside
Like magic words that always hide.
Maybe they're stuck inside the pages
So nobody can see.

If people did see
They would probably just snigger and laugh.
Or maybe they'd say
"A dictionary would be quite a thing to be!"

A Tree
by
Christopher Jebb
There once was a tree,
A very wonderful tree;
But as it starts off,
It's only a seed.

And as it gets taller,
It's not getting smaller.
And joins the others,
Like sisters and brothers.

But as it gets older,
Its branches get bolder.
And it withers away
Into an old piece of timber.
