Oct.07

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

Hallowe'en is upon us already! We look forward to having next week off as we will need to replenish our energy levels with the prospect of the school concert looming in the not too distant future. As with the previous concert we will be selling tickets through the school in mid- November.

Board of Management elections

Many thanks for the interest shown in finding parent nominees to the new Board of Management.  Today’s public count of your votes has resulted in Majella Cummins being elected as mother’s nominee & Sean Lyng as father’s nominee. We wish them well in their term on the Board.

Shoebox Appeal

For those of you making up a Shoebox for Operation Christmas Child,  boxes should be brought in to Mrs. O’Hanlon by Friday 9th November. Please note that you can send in €3 in coins with your Shoebox. Mrs O’Hanlon will then send on a single cheque to the charity to cover the total amount.

Tokens & Cards

Both Centra & Tesco  are in their last weeks of their current promotions. We would appreciate any cards & tokens you may have picked up while shopping. Many thanks to all who have already sent in cards & tokens. With the Centra promotion it looks like we will have enough cards for a camcorder & new digital camera.

School outings

Ms. Walsh’s 1st class visited New Ross library on Tuesday 23rd Oct for a book reading with author Fiona Tierney. This was part of Children’s Book Festival week and the children learned how the author created & developed her first book & got a sneak preview of her next book.

Meanwhile 6th class had a most interesting trip yesterday (Thursday) to the Tholsel , New Ross where they were given a guided tour on the Cavanagh Collection Photographic Exhibition by the collection owner, Mr. Jimmy Fitzgibbon. This was an insight into the life and times of New Ross from 1890-1910.

3rd class will attend a workshop on Energy & Forces in WIT on November 15th as part of Science week activities.

Infant prayer service

Many thanks to mothers, fathers & grandparents who took time out to join us for our Junior Infant Prayer Service on Wednesday. As always it is a lovely opportunity for the children to share an experience with their parents.

After- School Facility

The new after-school facility is working out very well for all involved. We would ask parents however to contact Carrie directly 085-1295479 if there is a change in arrangements rather than leaving messages with other children.

If you are collecting a child from school please make sure that you check in with either the class teacher, Ann in the office or a teacher on duty at break times.

Sports update

  • The U-12 girls have reached the Rackard League final & despite  spirited efforts drew with Blackwater last night in Taghmon. The replay will take place in Wexford Park on Weds 7th November at 3.30pm. Mrs. Kavanagh & Ms. Walsh have worked hard over the past months with the team & we wish them success next time out!
  • The Boy’s U-12 won the Club Co. Final  in convincing style a number of weeks ago. They beat Monageer in Taghmon. The boys were managed by Mick Walsh & Anthony Rowe.
