My Little Sister

My little sister

Who is only four

Has been an astronaut,

A dentist …and more!

She’s rescued animals

In a helicopter,

And more than once

Been a surgical doctor.

She has a part-time

Job as a fairy,

But still has time to work in a dairy!

Though she likes the moon

The teeth and brains,

The fairy wings

And the cows the same…

And she loved the time

When she saved that fox,

I think her favourite place…

Is the dressing –up box!

Children

They don’t like school

They don’t think it’s cool

Children love to have fun

Jump around and run

They like to eat food

and are usually in a good mood.

Children like to play sports

Play war and build forts

All children like to play

but they all grow up some day!

Us here in Horeswood school are

Playful, bubbly and cheerful too

Our teachers who are very nice

Help us learn all day long

Except

Saturday and Sunday we have a rest.

We have sports such as football,

     Soccer and basketball too

We do art in our school ans we

     Have some great artists too.

And last week one day we all made

Something to do with science.

At lunchtime we all play together

      And have great fun

I am glad to go to Horeswood national

school because they’re all very nice

       and talented there too.

Children

Kids on the swing-set

Cold crisp air in our lungs

Don’t bother us now

We’re too busy having fun.

We’re all different

Never the same

Different ages, different colours,

Different eyes, different names

Sun on our faces

We don’t want the day to end

Lying in the undergrowth by the river

Hanging out and playing with our friends.

Running through the forest

Playing in the shadows and the light

Climbing in the trees with the dog…

It’s alright!

Nicole is a Wexford Poetry Winner. Well done!!!

Nicole, in Fourth Class, reads her poem 'Irish Dancing' for the pupils of Scoil Mhuire on June 30, 2005. Her poem was chosen for a book of poems called 'Rhyme Lines' and is one of a hundred. The competition was organised by Wexford Teachers' Centre.

IRISH DANCING
I really like dancing
It's really lots of fun
I wear my dancing costume
My hair is in a bun.

I have these little dancing poms
They really are quiet neat
And when I do my dancing steps
It's like I've got magic feet.

There are lots of different dances
The hornpipe, jig and reel
And when I know I've done my best
Oh, the happiness I feel.

And now you know my hobby
It gives me so much fun
And it doesn't really bother me
If I have lost or won.

I do it cause I like it
And I find it's fun to do
And I know that when I am dancing
I am happy through and through.
