Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Welcome back to another school year. The first week has
flown by and hopefully everyone has settled back to a
regular school routine. Lots of changes happening this
year and we welcome new families and new staff members
to our school commumity. Ms Ann Lawlor has taken up a
permanent position and is teaching 5th class
while Ms Anna O’ Hanlon and Ms. Evelyn O’ Connor are
with us for the year covering job share and maternity
positions. While we announced in July that Mr Kennedy is
leaving us he is in fact with us until mid-term when he
takes up his new position as principal in Donard NS,
Poulpeasty. Ms Emma Hennessy will then return to us to
take up his permanent position.
Summer Works
Those of you who may have passed by the school during
the holidays will have noticed a lot of activity as we
had a new heating system installed with all its
associated electrical and mechanical works. This was
funded under the DES Summer Works Scheme and we also had
wall insulation under the Energy Efficiency Grant. We
look forward to a very cosy winter!
Staff Meeting
A reminder that there will be a scheduled staff meeting
this Thursday at 2pm. As junior infants will be gone
home at 12.30 there will not be an earlier Infant bus
run and all children will be accommodated on the 2pm
buses.
Swine flu
With the imminent threat of Swine flu over the coming
months we are following recommendations from the HSE and
DES regarding precautionary measures. All toilet sinks
have been fitted with liquid soap dispensers and
children have been briefed about hand hygiene both at
assembly and through SPHE lessons. We would suggest that
children come to school with a supply of tissues and
that they follow the “Bag it and Bin it” advice when
blowing their nose. Visitors should use the sanitiser
gel inside the front door . Children from 1st
class -6th may bring in personal gel
but must be responsible for minding it. Further
discussion about contingency plans in the event of a
serious outbreak will take place at the staff meeting
and at the next Board meeting.
