Old-age Rhyming Scheme

Today...

Excuse me but I failed to mention,

Only ten years to my old-age pension,

Then I shall be as free as air,

Wander round without a care,

No more deadlines to attain,

I can be at last myself again,

Not a lot - but that being said,

Adequately housed and fed,

Up at six and on my feet,

I'll grab myself a bite to eat,

Then take a walk down easy street,

And afterwards I'll read a book,

or just wallow in my sheer good luck....

    10 years later...

Unfortunately you've got Alzheimer’s,

A common ill in most old-timers,

The cancer in you lung ‘s deep-seated,

Your arthritic joints cannot be treated,

Now don’t eat meat and drinking's out,

Forget your weekly glass of stout,

These steroids might affect your blood,

You’ll feel much worse but wow, they’re good,

And take these pills they'll stop the pain,

We'll soon have you back in your chair again,

The double vision ‘s a bit of a curse,

Listen to tapes coz it’s bound to get worse,

You're lucky your bill is being paid,

By private insurance B- plan grade,

- “What's that you said about a spade?”

Hmm, best put you down ....

- “What - put me down?!”

for a hearing aid..
