New President Installed

The hand over to the incoming President Eamon McEvoy took place on Friday, July 20th, 2001 when the outgoing President Tom Keane introduced and passed on the chain of office and Presidential badge.  President Eamon said he was greatly honoured and looked forward to leading the members of the club working together over the next year for the good of the community. Prior to the hand over
Gavan Fogarty, former Leo (and son of Peter Fogarty, deceased member and past President) was inducted into the Club. Carmel Mac Canna received the outgoing President's badge and Joe Smith a certificate of appreciation for their joint work in the success of the Dublin Simon Community Concert.  Also receiving certificates  of appreciation were Michael Fitzpatrick (see Taste of Howth below)  and Briege Barrett.  

A specially mounted picture of  Pat and Gloria Doonan (at the Martello Tower opening) was presented in recognition of Pat's introduction of three new members to the Club during the year.

The guests drank the health of centenarian (July 7th), Colonel Clancy, father of Lion Brendan Clancy.  The Club also celebrated receiving the Environmental Award for 105I for its work on the Martello Tower (see below). An enjoyable evening was had by all.

 

District Governor Oliver McDonald visited Howth/Sutton Club on November 1st at the Marine Hotel, Sutton Cross. The DG spoke on the various District 105I undertakings this year.

Other Projects:
Taste of Howth once again a great success; Quiz night a financial success.  Bridge night at Howth Golf Club on Sunday  March 24th was very successful at which over €1,500 was made. Race Night at the Marine Hotel, Sutton on Thursday April 4th in aid of Beaumont Cancer Research Fund reasonably well attended. Over 1,000 used spectacles were collected and a cheque for €1,000 were forwarded to Vision Aid Overseas, Crawley England.  see more
