R1 and R1a - HG Members y-DNA Results TableThis is the R1 and R1a results page for all members of HDP. The table below may contain members from FTDNA, DNA Heritage and Oxford results. These results are sorted and merged in MS Access. On this page a further table also contains an R1 and R1a SNP (sub-Clade) Table with a detailed breakdown of the sub-clades/groups within the R1 family.R1 (M173) R1a (SRY10831.2) R1a1 (M17, M198) Most members of haplogroup R belong to the Haplogroup R1, which is defined by the marker M173. R1 is very common throughout Europe and western Eurasia. Its distribution is believed to be associated with the re-settlement of Eurasia following the last glacial maximum. Its main subgroups are R1a (SRY10831.2) and R1b (M343).R1a1 is common in Europe, Northern Central Asia and India. In Europe the highest frequencies are to be found in Eastern Europe. Places in Europe with the highest levels are the Ukraine, Poland and Russia. High frequencies are also found in Northern Europe, it is speculated to have been spread across Europe by Indo-Europeans, which may account for the existence of it in Ireland and the British Isles. R1a will be seen among some members of the Hiberno-Norman dynasties, whether these are the related to the ruling Elites or their followers can only be speculated upon. Historical Note: An important historical Irish example of this haplogroup is *kit no., 50946 - Rollo Prendergast. Rollo is a direct paper ancestor to Sir Maurice de Prendergast, born in the mid-12th Century. Maurice de Prendergast was Strongbow's (Earl of Pembroke) chief Herald and Marshall of the mixed force of Norman, Irish, Welsh and Flemish which came to the aid of Dhairmaid MacMurchu - the deposed King of Leinster. The Prendergast's have a good representation in this Haplogroup and are an important part of Irish historical Heritage. *Rollo has kindly allowed us to mention this. The DYS Columns in Blue are Markers used in the Bryan Sykes book "Blood of the Isles". The Red DYS columns are fast mutating markers. In the results table below, Red Columns indicate Fast Mutating DYS Markers, these can and should be used to determine relatedness between close matching results. The Blue columns reflect the ten markers used in the appendices of Bryan Sykes book "Blood of the Isles" - Bantam press, London. The results associated with the book are available as a downloadable PDF file from the following website: Blood of the Isles. The Blue Columns can be used for studying deep ancestry.
