The Irish Naval Association congratulates Commodore Mark Mellett on his promotion to Irish Defence Forces Deputy Chief of Staff and his promotion to Rear Admiral
Mark becomes the first representative of the Naval Service in the history of the state to be promoted to the position of Defence Forces Deputy Chief of Staff and the rank of Rear Admiral. He has already had a very distinguished career in the Navy. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal in 1994 becoming only the second Naval Officer to receive that award. He commanded the L.E. Emer and the Navy’s flagship vessel, the L.E. Eithne. He has also been the Associate Head of the NMCI and has served in Afghanistan and the Lebanon. Mark, a co-founder of IMERC, also holds a Ph.D. from NUI Galway in Ocean Governance!
