There now exist a refined industry to manage, emphasise and manipulate the reporting of events. Universities and Marketing Institutions compete to offer courses in Media Studies, Public Relations, Sociology and Politics to teach the arts of communicating a viewpoint to a target audience so as to benefit a particular group or party.

Balancing Force believes it is now necessary to intentionally de-brief oneself of much of the information directed at audiences by Television, The Press and the Government. If one is to grasp a clear understanding of events one must be ready to go beyond the obvious conclusion presented in The Media. Taking an example from the world of Entertainment, consider the current three most successful British actors developed by The Hollywood Movie Industry, consider Catherine Zeta Jones, Ewan McGregar and Hugh Grant. The Movie Industry would have you believe it is their talent and good fortune alone that has brought these actors success. However Balancing Force would suggest you check out an extra quality, which very much affect Hollywood’s box-office takings. Where do these actors come from? They are all British! Yes, but go deeper. Ms. Jones comes from Wales, Mr. McGregar from Scotland and Mr. Grant is from England. By selecting talented actors from each of the provinces of the United Kingdom, Hollywood achieves an immediate rapport with local audiences. With one of their sons or daughters having achieved Hollywood star status, the local cinema and video buying public feel involve and part of a worthwhile global industry. Consider too, why there is no Hollywood star from Northern Ireland. Certainly not because of a lack of talent instead its because there would have to be two such stars, a Catholic and a Protestant. And as Hollywood accepts it cannot control every possibility of a star’s development, the Catholic or the Protestant might outshine the other and so create extra resentment or even retaliation within these polarised communities.

Consider also the following, if the Hollywood Establishment could make as much money using only American actors would it do so? We will never know the answer to this question. However we do acknowledge that from an historic perspective Hollywood seems to have satisfied its need for an authentic British gentlemanly actor by developing and using just one local British actor, an actor capable of high drama, slapstick comedy and all else in between. Balancing Force notes that David Niven and then Michael Caine filled this need. Hugh Grant is now on the rise to satisfy, this now solidly established actor type, demanded by the public. Does this mean there is no role for a second such character type? Does it mean that Hollywood will only develop another such actor when Mr. Hugh Grant approaches old age? Think about it and decide. You now know more and remember Hollywood leaves little to chance and always seeks to maximise its profits.
