HAT TRICK VICTORY FOR SCOIL EOIN

Tuesday last, saw one of the most exciting school finals in the
Sciath Na Scoil for many a long day, weather conditions proved
very favorable for the final between Douglas and Innishannon
national schools. Scoil Eoin was present in large numbers,
boasting a team of 36 young dedicated and eager players.
The game began with all players highly charged and evenly
matched with the opening score coming from the Innishannon
side. It proved to be an exciting game with Scoil Eoin's center
field Eimear burying the ball deep in Douglas net to prepare
her team for victory.

The first few minutes were nerve wrecking for the supporters
with many wides from the Douglas side, and indeed many near
misses from Scoil Eoin. Katie played the match of her life and
was responsible for setting up the first score of the final. Douglas
fought back but at half time Scoil Eoin were in the lead.

Second half resulted with a brilliant goal from Douglas, putting
the pressure on Scoil Eoin. Marita , from Scoil Eoin, carefully anticipated the ball from one of her fellows players and set the
supporters alive with the second goal delivered by Scoil Eoin.
The second half saw some brillant footballing, with Scoil Eoin
fighting all the way for victory. Cornelia from Scoil Eoin
delivered a brilliant point in the final minutes of the match
and ensured that players and supporters could be confident
of a good win.

Neither teams relaxed during the duration of the match and
it was a tough and evenly matched match throughout. The final
whistle blew with a score board showing Scoil Eoin 2-3 and
Douglas 1-2. Scoil Eoin were delighted to bring back the cup
for the third year to Innishannon School.

SCIATH NA SCOL FINAL

It was a cold day in Paric Ui Chaoimh and it was
a quietly confident Scoil Eoin team that faced an eager St.Columbas side who seemed to have a distinct height avantage in certain areas on the pitch.

The game started at a ferocious pace with no quarter
given by both highly organised sides. The opening score arrived after some good work by Fiona who in turn set
up Marita for the first point after 10 minutes. A couple
of minutes later amid great excitment Katie went on
amazing run of 50 metres and gave an excellant pass
which gave Eimear finished in some style giving the
Douglas goalkeeper no chance for the first goal.

This seemed to spur Columbas on and they quickly
replied with a point from their star player Clare .
Half time duly arrived with no change to the score.

The second half started with a great pass from
Meadbh which led to a blinding shot from Marita
that shook the net. It was followed by a goal from
the elegant Clara (Douglas) which seemed to effect
the Innishannon girls confidence , the Douglas
girls poured forward in search of the equalising
score but the Scoil Eoin girls defended stoutly.
On a rare breakaway Katie scored a fine point to
relieve the pressure for the green and whites.
Douglas were quickly back with a point of their
own again from Shine to leave a goal between the
sides with time running out. At this stage Douglas
were throwing everyting at Scoil Eoin and the
Innishannon supporters were fearing the worst but
these girls have tremendous spirit and fought
gallantly for every ball and soon got back on top.
To round off a fantastic display Cornelia got the
all important insurance point to put the game beyond
the reach of the spirited St.Columbas team. Marita
went to collect the cup with great excitment.
