 Asples Bar & Restaurant

Location: Crescent Quay, Wexford Town

Rating:

Bouncers: Strict (Have your ID)

Best Nights: Saturday

Situated on Wexford's Crescent Quay, this well-known Wexford bar is quite popular with locals.

If you're going for a 'quiet' one during the week, then this is the place to go. Or, alternatively if you want to go all out and have a great night, head to Asples Saturday night when the second floor will be home to a DJ playing all your favourite tracks!

Asples also serves delicious food during the day which will suit all tastes.

Plus Points: Great youthful atmosphere at weekends. Good DJ Saturdays. Serve excellent food during the week. Good choice if you want to go for a quiet drink during the week.

 Finegans Bar & Bistro

Location: South Main Street, Wexford

Rating:

Bouncers: Strict but friendly

Best Nights: Friday and Saturday

A favourite here at InWexford. Absolutely mad (in Wexford terms!) at the weekend, especially Saturday when the place gets extremely busy. Why is this place so popular you may ask. Well, the atmosphere is excellent, its fresh, vibrant and young. The bar staff and bouncers are actually nice, the music is great, and, the drink is reasonably priced.

Like Asples, Finegan's also serves food during the day. And, like Asples again, it's a good place to go if you want to go for a quiet one during the weekdays.

We urge you to give it a try if you're young and up for a laugh!

Plus Points: Great atmosphere. Nice crowd. Employees are friendly. Excellent music choices.

 Mooney's Lounge & Disco Bar

Location: Wexford Quay

Rating:

Bouncers: Strict enough

Best Nights: Friday, Saturday & Sunday

A Saturday night favourite among the people of Wexford. Mooneys is the best known pub in Wexford and has been for quite a few years.

Currently the only place in Wexford with a 'nightclub' feel to it (apart from Club Sway which is said to be closing down soon), Mooney's 'Quays' disco bar is the only serious option on a Saturday night if you want to 1) Drink until 2am and 2) Score.

The dancefloor is quite smalled and can get packed easily making dancing awkward and uncomfortable but the music is good (the DJ plays a mixture of dance, r'n'b, hip hop, rock and slow sets).

The weekends are mad and that's probably what makes it so popular. Unfortunately, since they now have a monopoly on the towns nightlife, Mooneys are charging €5 entrance fee on Friday and Saturday nights.

The lounge is the place to go for a quiet one but that tends to get very busy at the weekends too as bands play there nearly every weekend.

Basically, if you want to get drunk and score - Go to the Quays (the nightclub part), or if you want to see a band try the lounge.

Plus Points: Good music. Lots of people. Only venue in Wexford with a nightclub feel to it, at the moment...

Comments: Yeah, Wexford nightlife is gone down the drain. It was never really good to start with, but with the closures of Redz, Harpers and now The Venue it really needs a lift... and soon!
