Left: The conjunction by John O'Neill. 60mm f/5.9 refractor. 1.5 second exposure (not driven). From Loughshinny, Co Dublin. 1st December 2008 at 17:36 UT. Venus is near the moon.

Right: Venus Occultation Egress Sketch by Deirdre Kelleghan. Meade LX90 telescope at 57x. Lunation 4 days - Illumination 13.7%. Sketched as seen through the eyepiece. Dec 1st 2008 at Greystones, Co Wicklow. Freezing. Occultation duration 15:35 to 17:10 (approx.), but too cold to time with any great regard. Pastels/Conte on black paper. The telescope was given to her for public outreach by Bob Winter of the BAA.

Taken by John O'Neill on the morning of 2001 Oct 31 with a 50mm camera lens camera (detail). The two planets were then only a little over a half a degree apart. Mercury is to the upper left of the brighter planet.
