Ballyfermot Library is now the the home for a fascimile copy of the Book of Kells. Written around 800 A.D. The Lord Mayor of Dublin Vincent Jackson obtained the rights to copy and reproduce the book at a cost of 14,000 euro. Ballyfermot Library is the only Library in Ireland to have a copy. Lord Mayor Jackson fundraised in the City which saw many business donating including Ballyfermot Credit Union who pledged 5,000 euro. Just as the orginal that can be seen in Trinity College The copy will be housed in a glass case and just as they do in Trinity College one page will be turned each day. There will be a plaque erected above the Book commemorating the Lord Mayors 13 year old nephew, Cillian Gaffney who passed away from an asthma attack last year. The Book was launched By the Lord Mayor on Thursday the 21st June 2007 at 11.30am in the Ballyfermot Library.
