2000 Senior Squad Seminar
The objective of the meeting is to focus everyone's mind on what has
to be done for WOC in Finland (9 months away). Preparation includes
resolution of Admin details (finance, selection, Anti-doping control,
communications), and specialist preparation (coaching, training in
Finland).
Invited are all orienteers who currently compete or intend to compete
for Ireland at Senior level in the future. (This includes older
promising juniors.) If you're aiming for WOC2001, World Cup 2002, or
WOC2003 in Switzerland this seminar is for you!
Also invited are coaches to squad members, and friends and supporters.
Venue is the same as last year - Merrion Cricket club, Anglesea Rd,
Ballsbridge, Dublin4... thanks Lindie!

(01-8336263). Cost for seminar £4.00 seniors, £3.00 students
and juniors. A light lunch is included.

10:30 Opening presentation - Wally Young, Director of High
Performance Orienteering.
10:35 Preparation and Training for International Orienteering
Competition - Colm Rothery, Senior Irish O. Champion, World Masters
O. Silver medalist, Double European Masters Champion & World Masters
Record Holder (800m).
11:30 Interval training session - Lindie Naughton, Coach. (bring your
running gear and O-shoes... the ground is slippery!)
13:00 Lunch.
14:00 Psychological training - Felicity Heathcote. (Felicity has
published 2 books on the subject and has been Irish Olympic team
psychologist. See comments below.)
15:30 Implementation of IOA Anti-doping policy and out-of-competition
testing - Aonghus O'Cleirigh. (Bernard Creedon has volunteered to be
the IOA Anti-Doping Officer.)
15:45 Appointment of Selectors, Criteria for selection, Trials for
WOC2001 - Wally Young / Gerry Brady.
16:15 Squad Administration - Finance, Pre-WOC training Finland and
fund raising events, communications, allocation of coaches to
athletes - Gerry Brady/ Aonghus O'Cleirigh.
16:55 Closing address - Wally Young.
