Fanad gets its very own calendar

Fanad Calendar '99First it was the Fanad Photo Journal and in the past two years the magazine has elevated the stature of the peninsula to a new level in preserving its past history and traditions. Not satisfied with that success the editorial board of the Journal are now producing a Fanad calendar.

And like the Fanad Photo Journal it is going to become a collector's item because only a limited edition is going to be published.

The cover features a photo taken by Jerry Carr during the harvesting in Aughadreena this Autumn. This is a picture with a difference because the scene recreates the golden era of the forties and fifties when the horse dominated the rural landscape.

The idea for the calendar is based on the premise that the parish does not have its own unique identity in the Christmas market and for the first time ever we hope to provide the community with the opportunity to send this special edition to their friends overseas.

Fanad Calendar 1999

The actual scene features Manuel Friel with the two horses and reaper and the scene is brilliantly captured for posterity and we never again see anything quite like it, again.

In Aughadreena Jerry deHello Bouncer!cided to recreate those days as a matter of interest locally and the many fine photographs reflect the nostalgia and the legend of bygone times.
It is a golden Autumn day and the sward of corn is being tilted off the blade as the wind gently whispers through the corn and in the background the lifers and stokers are busy while the the old threshing mill puffs away as the harvest is fed into it's grinders.
This picture is typical of bygone times in the peninsula and it also reflects so much of what they are all about themselves.

Most people will want to own one of the calendars and they may now be ordered by e-mail from Jerry Carr.
