In Ireland an English sounding or foreign
looking surname, often conceals one of Gaelic origin. Grannell is one such name
and a fine example of a genuine Gaelic family . This phenomenon of Irish
surnames hidden under an alien guise is in Ireland extremely common.
The
majority of the descendants, of the 'Mac Grannell's of Muinter Eolais' now have
the surname Reynolds.
