County Carlow rests in the centre of Ireland.
Its surrounded by County Laois (northwest), by Kildare (north), Kilkenny (southwest) and by Wicklow and Wexford (east).
Area 771 square miles (1,997 sq km). Population (1991): 40,942.
Administrative Capital is Carlow (1991 pop. 14027), on the Barrow River.
Other towns are Bagenalstown, on the Barrow River and Tullow, on the Slaney River, Muinbheag and Borris.
Derived from the irish name 'Ceatharlach'.
The granitic uplands of the Blackstairs Mts. in the southeast are a conspicuous feature in an otherwise fertile lowland region.

Driving Directions
The N80 is the route from Moate to Carlow. The N9 route comes from Dublin off the N7 to Carlow via Kilcullen.
