Its surrounded by County Cavan (north east), by Leitrim (north west), by Westmeath (east and South), by Roscommon (west).

The River Shannon and Lough Ree form its western border.

Derived from the Irish 'Longford Ui Fearraill', referring to the stronghold of the O'Farrell clan.

With a population of just over 30,000, Longford is one of Ireland's smallest and most picturesque counties.
Fishing for the pike angler at Lough Ree, Lough Forbes, the River Inny and at the Gowna Lakes.

On the River Inny is the beautiful town of Ballymahon which is always associated with the poet, Oliver Goldsmith, who was born three miles away.
