WEB DESIGN

To the uninitiated:_

Web site creation is pretty easy. You don't need to know how to program:- the coding (HTML is the name of the programming language) is mainly done using a visual aide which allows you to more or less just stick things where you want to on the page.

You will have to learn a little HTML, even for a small site like this, but you can probably pick it up as you go along

This Website:-

Was created using M.S. Frontpage Express on a Gateway 500 mhz. P.C. and went on line on Thursday 2nd March 2000. It was posted, with a little help from Gerardo (cheers, buddy) usingFTP Pro.

Design:-

This website was designed more or less in accordance with the guidelines laid down by Jakob Nielson in 1996.

Here's a link to his Top Ten Mistakes in Web Site Design

Jakob Nielson is a highly regarded pundit in the area of E-Commerce and the internet in general.

Nielson probably wouldn't like a lot of things on this site, like graphics, sounds etc. but I've included them because I think a personal homepage should have some fun in it. Also, Nielson can make a site look good without graphics (check out his homepage at http://www.useit.com/ ). And I believe a site has to look good.

A good guide to getting started is HTML Goodies , where they will take you by the hand and teach you from first principles.

Just for fun, if you feel like contravening every convention in efficient website design, look at Wacky HTML, where you will find code for things like screen dissolves and text that jumps around. Although I didn't use that stuff, Just messing around with it contributed a lot to my limited knowledge of HTML.
