John Zachary DeLorean
This part of our
website will soon be updated with a comprehensive history on John DeLorean, but for now, you can read an account of how club
member John Dore met John DeLorean
in August 1998.
My brother and I
met John DeLorean at his farm in August, 1998. We
were both very impressed with the man. He has been through a lot of legal crap
since the collapse of the DeLorean Motor Comany, and his name and reputation has been destroyed by
the press.
Even so, he
remains a very friendly, approachable man. When I called him at his home around
the end of July 1998, he didn't mind me calling him at all. To my surprise,
when I asked if I could meet him when I would be in the New Jersey area, he
said to call him again when I was in the area, and I could come up to his
house!
Well, I did, and
on August 2nd, my brother and I drove up the long driveway to his beautiful
home. He came out to greet us, and then led us through his home to the back of
his house. We had a really interesting conversation for about an hour - we
talked about the North of Ireland and how the peace talks were progressing at
that time. John was genuinely interested in this, and showed a lot of concern for
the people involved in the conflict.
We spoke about the
motor industry. One company in particular I remember discussing with him was
Subaru, whom John said are their own worst enemy - they make great but very
ugly cars.
He was a very easy
guy to speak to, and we really enjoyed meeting him.
After about an
hour, I got a photo taken with John, and he autographed some enlarged prints of
a DeLorean. Click on the thumbnails below to see these photos.
