The School Integration Project (SIP) was established as a major initiative of the Schools IT 2000 programme. Pilot projects are established in "lead" schools. These bring schools together with partners in industry, education and the wider community under the directorship of the National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE). Extra finance and technical support are provided to enable schools reach their goals. It is hoped that project outcomes will provide models of best practice for the use of ICTs across the Irish education system. Our school was invited to join with four others to investigate the use of the Internet in Education. As part of the project we recieved funding from the NCTE to equip our classrooms, they also provided substitute cover to release one of our teachers to implement the project. During the school year 2000-2001 we have suceeded in integrating technology into the teaching of communication, language and literacy. Teachers have recieved training in the creation of individualised learning materials and currently almost 90% of our class based teachers are using these materials with very promising results. This website has been designed and produced as part of the project. As you will see our students are the main focus of our site. Many of the classes throughout the school have contributed their work for publication on the site. Some of the pages relate directly to the reading materials employed in the classrooms. Extensive research into the areas of Special Needs and ICT, Web Design and Teacher Training was undertaken to ensure best practice during the running of the project. The results of this research as well as extensive documentation of the technology project are available in the SIP report. To facilitate the production of the teaching resources produced during the project, a series of templates have been designed in Publisher 2000. These are available to preview and download by clicking on the link below. Step by step instructions are available for each template. These are suitable for the absolute beginner. In return for accessing or using our resources we simply ask that you contact us and give us your feedback on the materials/resources. |
