St John of God School
St John of God School is located at Islandbridge in Dublin.
It caters for students from 4 to 18 years of age who have general
moderate learning disabilities. Our school strives to prepare
each student for life to the best of their ability.
Educational programmes are individually focused because we recognise
that each student is an unique individual, with their own difficulties,
strengths and gifts. Experiential learning together with academic
work are the main elements of the school curriculum. Learning
is fun and an enjoyable experience for each pupil.

Star of the Week
Friday is a very special day in Islandbridge. Each class
gathers in the school hall to hear which pupils have won the Star
of the Week. Every month we choose a rule. The students
who try hardest to keep the rule win the prize - a certificate,
some fruit and a chocolate bar. When all our star pupils are
assembled we sing and cheer along to Tina Turner's 'Simply the Best'.
If you would like to read our rules click on the link or the photograph.

School Leavers Programme
Our programme is a mixture of work experience, social trainning
and life skills. This is a time when we focus on what
students need to learn and where they will be moving on to.
We prepare our students for transition. We work very
closely with the job coach and the parents. Students go through
a wide variety of emotions in this time - excitement, anticipation,
fear and doubt. It is challenging but very rewarding
and a time of growth for us all.

Out and About
Our middle and senior classes are busy practicing
their social skills with our out and about programme. This
initially involves bus trainning and a Safe Cross Code programme.
Watch out for the green man!
We have made two new friends, Anne and Patsy in Ormond
Quay Post Office where we regularly save.
All our students look forward to the best part of
the day, that mug of coffee or cup of tea in a cafe of their choice.
Bewleys today Debenhams tomorrow! Our school leavers enjoy
the breakfast of their choice each week.

Our Playground
Every afternoon weather permitting, the students form
our junior section go to the playground. It is one of their
favourite places where an enormous amount of learning takes place.
While running, sliding, climbing and swinging, the children are
developing the body's strength and agility. They learn to
comunicate and co-operate with others. Through play they develop
self esteem and self confidence. Above all it
is great fun!
