20/5/01 : Almost There - U-17s Need 1-point for League Title after 3-2 win v. Knocklyon

Three C's again were on the mark for Celtic again in this crucial league game.  An early strike for Cass, a surging run and finish from Woodsie, and a super diving header from Mo, saw off a very strong challenge from the southside visitors. Celtic are on the verge of what would be a very deserved league title if they take a point from their last game.  Alan Mahon has managed to keep together a strong panel throughout the league campaign, see below.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Super victory : Ck Celtic  6   Knocklyon  0

Alan Mahon broke open the champagne to celebrate his team's winning of the 17A1 league title, with a very convincing win away in Firhouse.  In truth, they could easily have been in double figures.  Colin Moloney, who has been superb most of the season, was again on the mark to start off where he finished last week. You'll remember he scored the third in his team's 3-2 win last week. This week, he latched on to a Martin Thompson ('Vando') through ball, and slotted home from close in after 18 mins.  Andrew Elliott was put through for the second with a delightful pass from Colin Cassidy on 25 mins.  Andrew made 3-0 before half-time. Knocklyon played with more purpose in the second half and were unlucky on a number of occasions. Eric Quinn made it 4-0 with a fine header from a corner on the hour mark. Andrew Elliott finished off his hat-trick 10 mins. later. Eoin 'Oggy' Conway took his opportunity when he was on hand to slot home after 76 mins.

Make no doubt about it, this is a fine time, and all will be looking forward to the new season after their promotion.. Full marks to Alan Mahon, brother in law of Roddy Collins, who has given the team his undivided attention and 110% commitment all season.  Roddy was also often to be seen giving Alan a digout at training during the year.

So talented are these lads, see across Colin Cassidy and 'Billy' Steve Dunne when they played recently for the seniors AUL team in Porterstown.
