Club’s
first ever Soccer Summer Camp a Big Success
The
Club hosted its first Summer Soccer
Camp
in Porterstown between
8th to 12th July
2002. Over 50 players aged 8 to 14
participated and by all accounts thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience,
as well as learning lots of new skills.
Coaching was provided throughout the
week by members of Bray Wanderers FC i.e.
Bobby Smith Head Coach, Matt Gregg,
Goalkeeper,
and Thomas Morgan,
central mid with Bray
Wndrs.
Thomas, it will be remembered,
captained the Irish under 18
Team when they finished 3rd
in the World Championship in Malaysia in 1997.
Damien
Duff also played then.
Thomas,
who spent a couple of seasons with Blackburn Rovers before joining Bray,
was a big favourite with the young
players and he entrawled them with his wonderful skills.
On one occasion Thomas picked a mark
on the centre of the crossbar of
the main goal,
and predicted to his admiring pupils that he would hit that mark on the crossbar
with the ball from a free kick from 50 yards at the first attempt.
Did he hit the target ?
Yes
he sure did - and at the first attempt .
The
odd heavy cloudburst during the camp failed to dampen the spirits. The camp
ended on Friday with a presentation of prizes to a number of players,
who had made a special impression during the Camp and all players received free
drinks, an Adidas ball and and Adidas T-shirt.
Our congratulations to all the players who participated and behaved so well and our Thanks to Bobby, Matt and Thomas for their dedication throughout the week.
We
hope to have photos of the occasion soon.
