22/9/02 Goal Feast in Laurel Lodge
Castleknock Celtic 8 Dunshaughlin 4
It was up and down stuff for the seventy minutes. The goal-rush began after 10 minutes with Owen O'Shea seizing on to a chance to put the home side one up. Sean Lacey added to the lead after 15 minutes. Then the big centre half James Campbell on 25 minutes made it 3-0. It looked bleak for Dunshaughlin, but they dusted themselves down quickly, and within a minute Sean Doyle struck the Meath side's first goal. But Graham McIlkenny restored the three goal margin on 34 minutes.
The second half was equally eventful. That D-man Sean Doyle struck again after 40 mins. His leadership inspired his side, and they were within one goal after 50 mins when Keith Commins scored smartly. Then Owen O'Shea broke through on 50 mins to put the home side two up again. But Doyler achieved his hat-trick for the Duns after 55 mins. 5-4, what a match. The decisive goal came on 65 mins when Cian Crawford broke forward and rifled home from close range. The Duns never recovered from this. Gary McIlkenny made it 7-4 on 67 mins. Goal of the match came at the death when a passage of fine passes finished with Darren Ennis hitting home from the left hand side of the box.
Well done to both teams who served up a real early morning treat, and a perfect antidote to the Sunday morning blues. What a ref! Didn't he do well?!!!
