The Under 7T5 team travelled to Glin Road, Coolock on a bright, bitterly cold Saturday morning for an 11am kick-off. Ross Ward was team captain.
The first quarter had plenty of action from both teams but no goals scored. This was soon remedied by a tremendous solo-run by Aidan O'Flaherty from the half-way line, beating several players and scoring from 3 metres out. A few minutes later, Ross Ward picked the ball up in midfield and laid the ball to Ross Kennedy who scored with his favourite left foot. After the restart, the home side pulled one back.
Anthony Healy took his turn in goal for the third quarter and denied St. Columbans an equalizer, with a save that Shay Given would have been proud of. There was sustained pressure from the Saints but they were denied by star defenders, Tom "Solid as a Rock" Fogarty and Eve "Bites your Legs" Farrelly.
Another excellent performance was in midfield from
Hannah Hanlon and Eoin O'Dunnuchu. Eoin moved forward with the ball and
scored a third from 10 meters. The final goal came in the last quarter,
with a fine effort from Aidan Flaherty, who worked tirelessly for the whole
match. Although it was a wonderful team performance, Aidan deservedly was
"Man of the Match". The U-7
team is unique in that there are two girls playing in the squad and they have
shown that they are as good as the boys !
