Superb Win for Hogan's Heroes
Castleknock Celtic 3 Ballyfermot Utd 1
The weather might have been a disappointment, with the Sun refusing to shine, but this game provided all the heat and excitement that anyone could have wanted. Celtic trailed until the last quarter, when they staged a comeback, only seen in Roy of the Rovers. League leaders Ballyfermot crashed to only their third defeat of the season.
Celtic went behind after 15 minutes, and it stayed that way until half way through the second half.
Then an inspired substitution when Joey
Brogan came off the bench fo
r the excellent Peter Hogan.
Joey put
through Celtic's prolific scorer, Bernard Brogan, who placed his shot
perfectly into the far left hand corner to give the keeper no
chance. A fine equaliser. Some of us would have settled for a
share of the points, but this U-18s side is made of greater ambition.
The fans on the line, including the
Brogan Labrador, were in for even greater excitement,
fo
llowing an intricate
move in the middle of the park involving Bernard Brogan and Francis
Hughes. Bernard cleverly flicked the ball to Fran, who delivered the
killer ball to David Cavanagh, who in turn threaded his pass to Joey. The
big striker was in lethal form, and he rifled home past the helpless keeper who
had no chance.
Ballyfermot had their own chances, and they went perilously close late on when a header was just over the crossbar..
The game was wrapped up when Joey, who
had obviously had his Weetabix, was put through by the tireless Ciaran Dalton.
He cooly rounded the keeper and slotted it home. A great display by
everyone and a particular mention for our own Roy Keane, captain Ryan Macadam,
Celtic's sweeper, who marshalled his troops with confidence throughout the
morning.
Celtic have won eight of their last nine league games and are hot in pursuit of Ballyfermot.
