Castleknock found themselves facing their arch rivals Rivervalley in the final League match of the season without their striker Oisin Hunt due to an unfortunate accident.

Castleknock, now faced with a real challenge, moved up a gear and the strength and skill of their midfield pair Paul Corry and Sean McGarrity began to tell. Niall O’Dea found McGarrity free on the right and the latter raced to the edge of the box before shooting hard and low, his shot was half-smothered by the Rivervalley Keeper who, before he had time to clear off his line, saw the ball crashed to the net by the quick-thinking-in-rushing Brian Moriarty to bring Castleknock level. Castleknock continued to apply pressure and forced a number of corners that were beautifully floated in from the right boot of Craig McGivern.

The turning point in the game came early in the 3^rd Quarter when the alert Cillian Daly picked out Stephen Smartt wide on the left and despite close attention from two Rivervalley defenders Stephen cut through before releasing an unstoppable shot to Rangers net to give his side the lead. But the Mighty Rangers refused to die and continued to run at the Castleknock’s defence ,but Cillian Daly and Ronan Flanagan were in a mean mood and were well backed-up in goal by the bang-on-form Barry Doyle who blocked and held two "bullets"of shots late in the 3^rd Quarter.

Castleknock wrapped-up the points and the League Title in the final Quarter when good combination play from Niall O’Dea and Sean McGarrity released the lion-hearted Paul Corry who shot home from 20 yards.

The very sporting Rivervalley Team took the League Runners-up prize which they fully deserved.

The Castleknock boys, who can now concentrate on the Cup, returned to Club Headquarters in high spirits to celebrate their first League Title with a surprise party kindly arranged in the "Kitchen" by Marie Smartt.
