Malahide Utd 1 Castleknock Celtic 2
It
was heartwarming to see two good footballing sides serve up a “feast of
football” out in Malahide on a cool November morning. It was thoroughly
enjoyed by parents and mentors from both sides.
The
first quarter saw Castleknock with a lot of possession. Eoghan O’Dunnuchu was
outstanding in defence and cleared his lines every time. The first goal resulted
in excellent work by 5 Celtic players. A kìckout by Eoin Sweeney
found Eoghan O’Dunnuchu. Passes were exchanged between
Luke Henshaw, Darragh McCaffery and Ryan Moore. Ryan picked his spot and
hit a cracker into the top of the net. He is lethal if he is within shooting
distance of the goal. Ryan had earlier done a Cinderella and couldn’t find his
boots. Jack Fogarty did a Prince Charming and loaned Ryan a pair. They were a
size too big but they did the business……..thanks Jack !
Malahide
hit back in the second quarter. Four of Castleknock’s players were caught
napping upfield at a throw-in. When
the ball broke loose in the Castleknock half,it was four against two.
Despite valiant defending by Eve Farrelly and Tom Fogarty, the ball trickled
over the line. It was the wake-up call Castleknock needed. Eve ran up the right
wing and crossed the ball but was cleared only to Ryan who smacked another
unstoppable shot to make it 2 – 1.
The
rest of the match saw end to end action. Malahide looked certain to even matters
when they missed a sitter with just the keeper to beat.
Danny Byrne exchanged passes with Ryan which culminated in Danny breaking
the back of the net to “score”
his first of the day. A perfectly legitimate goal was disallowed by the referee
but it didn’t matter as Castleknock held on to win the match.
Luke
Henshaw was our midfield general and was nominated Man of the Match.
It
was a super match and as Danny’s, Dad, said afterwards “ Who needs the
Premiership, when we have this ?” Thank you team for a wonderful performance.
