Oh So Close for our Under-8s
Swords Manor 1 Castleknock Celtic 0
It was the first match of the New Year for the Under 8A’s and a tough encounter was expected .
There was a bitterly cold stiff wind blowing against Celtic in the first quarter. The pitch was wider than the normal 7 a side pitches that they have played . This meant the players had to run their hearts out….and this they did. It was a baptism of fire.
Swords opened the scoring in the first quarter. They were contained by a series of wonderful saves by Castleknock ‘keeper , Eoin Sweeney. It would be unfair to single out any individual , as the entire team played as a unit…….fighting for the ball, winning it and laying it off to colleagues. Even when they were under extreme pressure, they were resolute in defense. The team never dropped their heads and fought tenaciously for the ball.
It was a gritty display by the team. They showed tremendous spirit in front of a very talented Swords side. The Swords manager complimented the Castleknock side on their performance, as he said it was his sides best performance of the season.
At the end of the match, David Fogarty praised all players for a fantastic team performance. Winning isn’t everything …. It was good to be back…….
Eoin Sweeney was nominated Man of the Match.
