Match of the Day

Walsh double gives Celtic the points

Castleknock Celtic  3   Cloughertown  2

12Ds earned full points in their league match against Cloughertown, thanks to a double from Graham Walsh.  Tom Mooney got the other Celtic goal.  To be honest, Celtic looked a bit jaded after their tour of England over the Easter, when they played in the Manchester Cup, and then went on to Birmingham, where they saw Villa defeat title chasing Chelsea at Villa Park.  All had a great time, but the hangover was evident here.  It was level till five minutes from time.  A technically correct free-kick to Celtic was eventually the difference between the teams.  At 2-2, it looked like a share of the spoils.  Cloughertown defender injudiciously shouted 'mine', which should have, of course, been a personal name.  A free was awarded to the disgust of the visitors.  Jonny Cooper took control of proceedings, tapped the ball to Graham Walsh, who curled an inch-perfect shot to the top right hand corner.  Graham's strike was greeted with great relief, and it was colourfully described by his team-mates as a real beauty.  Actually, as the reporter was a distance away, I am not sure that 'real' was the word used.

Result 3-2.

Rapid fire Adam O'Callaghan hit four against visiting Transport in 17A DDSL league, three of them were set up by his bro. Steve, who should himself have been awarded a goal when ref ruled his effort did not cross the line.   Greg Robinson was unlucky to be denied a goal when he rifled in from close range, only to be brilliantly denied by the Transport keeper.

NDSL U-16s go out of Ita Farrell League Cup by the odd goal in five, 3-2 to Belgrove, in this replay.

Mixed fortunes for senior squads away in AUL league.  AUL Div2 team had a superb 4-3 win over Hill Celtic in Griffeen Valley Pk. On the mark were two each for Aaron Coward and Kevin Brady.  photos

17/4/04 : AUL Div2A could only manage 3-3 away to Phoenix Rovers, when they needed full points to maintain their league title challenge.  Stef Hennessy on the double, and Darragh Kirby scored for Celtic.  photos

U-10C overcame Rush Athletic 2-1 with Eamon O'Donoghue and Thomas Healy on the mark for Celtic in this very tight game in Porterstown.

U-13F go down 1-0 at home to Skerries town.  Manager Alan Crampton was disappointed with the result given the team's performances of late, but put it down to a reaction to the exertions of his team's trip to the Manchester Cup and the Villa Park for the Easter Monday Chelsea game.

20/4/04 :  U-17s make it 6-out-of-6 in 3 days: Having beaten Transport 4-2 on Sunday, Celtic defeated fellow- highfliers Mountview Utd 4-2 away, with goals from Adam O'Callaghan on the double, and one each for Cyril Teo and Colm Brady -  League title remains their target.
